Sunday Stash # 1

I love fabric. That's no secret. So Fiona at Finding Fifth has inspired me to follow her with the weekly Sunday Stash post.

For the past two weeks, my local quilting store, Finchs Nest, has had a big sale. 30% off all fabric, 20% off all quilt kits, 50% off all Christmas things and some other great discounts on remnants. I always look forward to these sales because when I have quilts planned I can usually pick up what I need at the discounted price. This was the case this time with my train quilt, that will be a Christmas gift for my stepbrother. I got some 2.4m wide backing and the binding. I will post about this quilt, I just need to get some good photos of the completed top.

I also have recently gone through my stash and sorted all my fabric into colours. It became apparent that I am significantly lacking in yellow and orange fabrics. This is probably because they are my two least favourite colours. But because I am planning to make some scrappy quilts from the Scrap Republic book, I thought that I had better invest in a few more prints. Any excuse to buy more fabric right? ;-)

So I picked up these, not all are yellow and orange but it was on sale so I just had to get some of those ones that I have had my eye on....

I also got this one from the remnant basket, and it turns out that it's actually a Christmas print so I got it for half price. $5.00 for 70cm. Bargain.

Yesterday I won an auction on ebay for 2.5m of Amy Butlers Heirloom/Blue Sky from her Lark range for $27.50 including postage. That works out to be $11.00/m! I love Amy Butler fabrics, particularly this range and her Love range, so it will definately be put to good use!

Hope you have had a nice weekend x

QCA Bee - May Block

Last night I finished this block for Phillipa using mock needle-turn applique. It definately put me out of my comfort zone.

I am determined to get my string block quilt finished so today I made two more blocks.

Liebster Blog Award

The lovely Caz over at The Accidentental Quilter has nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award. Thank you Caz! For those of you who have no idea what this is (like I didn't) the origins of the Liebster Blog award are somewhat unclear but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany, Liebster meaning favorite or dearest, to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. Upon accepting the award the recipient must then pass it on to five more blogs of note.

The rules are simple:

1. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 5 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed.
2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
3. Post the award on your blog.
4. List the bloggers you gave the award to with links to their sites. Leave a comment on their blogs to let them know they've received the award.

I am presenting the Liebster Blog Award to -

1. Jan-Maree at AUSSIE HERO QUILTS
2. Cassie at CASS THE COOLEST
3. Kate at KWILTS BY KATE
4. Gemma at PRETTY BOBBINS
5. Sarah at SARAH HODGSON

I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do.

A Fireman And Some Sheep

Last week saw me receive some wonderful things in the mail from a few of my lovely friends in Quilt Club Australia.

I won a giveaway over at Samelia's Mum and received this Fireman Sam DVD. Master 2 loves it. Thanks Anorina!

The lovely Kat from Diary Of A Flutter.Kat sent me this gorgeous little piece of fabric (and a lovely card) from her stash. She had fussy cut one of these gorgeous sheep and used it in one of her bee blocks. I commented on her post and asked her what fabric it was as it reminded me of my son's book Where Is The Green Sheep?, which he LOVES. She was so kind as to offer to send me some of hers! Thanks Kat! Now I have to decide what to make him with it.

After cleaning up my sewing area I picked up this glass jar from Spotlight for $8.99 to put my threads in. I just love it.

Some Progress

Well after a few weeks absence from any real sewing and my blog, I managed to make some progress today.

I started sewing up the top for the Ballerinas & Bugs quilt. Blocks into strips and then started on sewing strips together. Only a few more to go, hopefully I can do this tomorrow. This is quite likely as Master 2 has come down with a nasty cold so we will be spending the day at home.

Although I haven't done any sewing in the past week, I did get the chance to clean up my sewing table. I am the kind of person who needs a neat and organised work space so I think the state of my area has been a contributing factor in my lack of motivation to sew. Now that it's nice and clean and organised I can't wait to get stuck into my basket of WIP's!
